ACT Security Recommendations
For the 10 or 20% of you that are already all IP, continue on course.
For the rest of you, your decisions should be driven by two factors:
- Size of the facilities you manage: If they are small like quick serve restaurants or boutique retailers, take your time with IP, no rush. If the facilities are large, you want to move aggressively to IP.
- The state of your DVR / NVR: With ACT on your side we make sure our multiple vendors we stay in touch with today’s ever advancing technologies for your DVR / NVR. ACT line of IP products are making advances like going hybrid, supporting analytics, providing central management, etc., making it very likely our end users will be in good shape for years to come. If your current suppliers are not supporting this, you may be missing out on this Exciting generation’s wave of operational savings and loss reduction. Must-Have Features & Functionality:
High Definition: There is little sense installing standard definition cameras when, for a little bit more, you can get MEGAPIXEL or HD resolution
Adequate Resolution: When it comes to choosing the proper resolution camera for your application, you must consider pixel density at your target. To have enough pixel density to recognize facial characteristics and or license plates, you must maintain at least 40 pixels per foot at your target.
Video Compression: H.264 high profile provides better picture quality and more precise metadata using lower bandwidth lower bandwidth compared to H.264 base profile.
Interoperability: Select IP (Internet protocol) cameras that comply with the highest interoperability and conformance standard (ONVIF) and integrate with the majority of existing video management system solutions.
The Right Lens for The Right Job: Along with resolution, choosing the appropriate lens is also critical for quality video. Doing so will ensure that you have quality results both in the center and the edges of your image.
